Fade-out chair by Nendo

Of course nobody believes n the ghosts and other evil spirits. Nevertheless it is always very interesting to listen different stories about other worlds and unknown creatures, - like fairy tails which adorn our reality. Maybe such decoration of real interior can become half otherworldly chair by Japanese designer Nendo which is called Fade-out chair.

If you look at the chair from afar and not go into details, it may seem, - and surely will seem that it hangs in the air and does not touch the floor with his legs. Moreover if quite big person sits on it, - the chair will not go down. And then you should look more careful at it.

The matter of fact is that the chair is made of wood and its four legs – of acrylic which are painted from the top to look like wood and from below, at their edges, is clean and transparent. And therefore it seems that the legs of the chair are cloaked in deep fog or it flies in the clouds ad if you illuminate it with one or other light you will get the real furniture for disco.

Fade-out chair still exists in only one exemplar but one may guess that soon the designer will begin to mass-produce his project. Simple and stylish furniture is always in demand and great popularity, especially in Japan where people like unpretentious minimalism with special appeal.

Interior styles of bedroom

There was time when the bedroom was considered a symbol of material and social status of its owner. Luxuriance of decoration, height of feather bed and amount of pillows on the bed could say a lot. Now these characteristics have exceptionally decorative character but all other requirements for choosing bed increased.

Our health and mood depends on our sleeping place and its comfort. The recommendations in choosing bed are superfluous: everyone has his own ideal. The bed should be wide enough but not to take all the space of bedroom. It should correspond with the style of placement and blend with other elements of interior. Therefore the bedroom sets are still popular. Besides bed and wardrobe the bedroom set usually includes dressing table, cupboard, chest, china cabinet and often even armchairs and small sofas.

The adherents of classic orientations prefer the models made of valuable sorts of wood. Such masterpieces are often decorated with handmade carving or incrustation with elephant ivory and gilding. For modern interior the models made in traditions of minimalism are still very actual. The ethnic motives are on the top of fashion. The bed upholstered with leather looks very luxuriate. Simple metal bed today turns into forged author works or chromic beds of famous designers in hi-tech style.

The significant advantage of expensive modern models is that they are often equipped with all possible additional amenities, for example with roll-out cupboards and shelves or mobile and bending in different sides lightings. The higher forms of progress were realized in technically equipped models of beds which allow regulating the position of head and all surface of the bed.

The decorative elements of interior of bedroom are chosen to the common stylistic. The pillows and covers, mobile partitions, lightings and other accessories should blend with furniture and decoration. The fireplace is also very popular in interior giving the refinement to the bedroom. The flowers will add harmony and make the morning in such room more pleasant and nice.

In the room with expensive wood furniture the heave silk or velvet curtains, wool carpet and ancient engraving are appropriate. Interior of modern minimalism requires bright details as lamps, vases or candlesticks. For ethnic styles the wicked details of wood, rattan or leather as the decoration of head of the bed and independent accessories are great. The favorite method of eastern interior is the combination of black and white or dark brown and beige that all fragments of the placement are in color contrast.

Fish Lamps by Frank Gehry at New York’s Jewish Museum

The fishy exhibition has opened at the Jewish Museum in New York. It is officially called “Fish Forms: Lamps by Frank Gehry” and on view through October 31. Exploring the significance of fish imagery in the legendary, Los Angeles-based architect’s work, the exhibit features eight of his interior-lit fish lamps displayed in near darkness, creating a gallery of glowing orbs.

Gehry came up with the idea for the lamps when he was asked by the Formica Corporation to make something with their then new laminate product ColorCore, which, when he broke a piece, created shards that resembled fish scales. Gehry turned to his Venice, California neighbors, the fabrication studio New City Editions, to produce the lamps he designed and approved and the team created approximately 30 between 1984 and 1986.

“The lamps are beautiful, whimsical works from a mind of great ingenuity and creativity,” says Ruth Beesch, the Jewish Museum’s deputy director for program and the organizer of the exhibit. “They are a fantastic blending of idea and material with the translucent shards perfectly fulfilling Gehry’s artistic vision.”

In addition to the lamps, an accompanying slide show highlights how the fish form has morphed from an iconic symbol to a transformative object throughout Gehry’s fabled career. As Gehry says, “If you really want to go back into the past, why not do fish?”

Fireplaces in interiors

As it is known there are several things at which people look endlessly, and fire is among them. To give warmness, calmness and romance in the long winter evenings the fireplaces exist. The fireplace is the symbol of stability and home coziness and it gives the nice atmosphere and good mood in the house.

Today choosing the fireplace its functionality and appearance play the main role. The classic fireplaces are usually set in the country houses and private villas. At the same time setting the real fireplace in the multistory city houses is almost impossible. But there is a decision: in such cases the decorative fireplaces are usually used which just imitate the real burning fire.

The choice of materials for making such constructions depends on the level of imitation of fire. If it is just the light imitation (inside such fireplace there is a lamp socket and decorative stack of firewood) then there are no serious requirements to the materials. If the imitation of warmness is also planned (in such cases electric heating unit is put) then the materials resistant to such impact are used.

The real windfall for placement with small area is the corner fireplace because it takes very little place. Being very practical article the corner fireplace can have many aesthetical qualities because their decoration has the wide space for fantasy in spite of their small size.

With every day the fireplaces get more spreading: they are set not only in the living houses but also on the offices of various firms. There are many variants of design of fireplaces. The decoration and place depends on the furnishing of the room, of its position regarding other elements of interior, its harmony with the common style of placement. For revetment different materials can be used.

As it was already mentioned above the fireplaces in interior play also aesthetical role. The following kinds of decoration of fireplaces are distinguished:

-         Classic style has the simple and refined forms. The fireplaces in this style have the U-formed portal and open fire chamber. The portal is often decorated with various bas-relief and sculptural elements.

-         Empire style supposes marble portals and even some pomposity. You can often meet the motives of antic mythology in this style.

-         Country style prefers porous material for making fireplaces: sandstone or coquina. For revetment brick or wood is used. Such fireplaces look very cozy and do not cost much.

-         Modern style combines the base elements of classic which allow such fireplaces to blend easily with the modern furnishing of apartment or office.

-         Avant-garde fireplaces look more like futuristic sculptures. Metal and glass are used as the main materials.

Hi-tech concludes the utmost strictness and laconism of forms. Such fireplaces are made of modern fireproof materials (glass, stainless steel and so on).
